At some time in your life you will want to rent a car. Now this can be for a vacation or perhaps just to get you by while your car is being repaired but one thing is for sure, nobody wants to pay too much for their rentalcar if they can at all help it. There are, however, several things that you can do to make sure that you are getting the lowest price on your rental car as possible.

The first thing that I do when I am looking for the lowest price on a rental car is to call all the major car rental companies. I go down through my list of Hertz, National, Thrifty, Alamo and others and have them give me quotes. Now most of them will tell you that the price may go up if you do not buy from them right at that moment, but trust me, it hasn't happened to me in 10 years of renting cars, it's just a tactic that they use.

Another thing that you should do is to check the internet for a good price on a rental car. I know that I have found prices online directly from one of the major car rental companies that was not available when I called them on the phone. Try checking places like sidestep.com or expedia to see if you can find a better deal than what you were quoted on the phone. This entire process will only take a few minutes once you become efficient at it and you will no doubt find quite a bargain sometimes.

Once you have secured your best price try calling them on the phone again and asking for a further discount. Sometimes they are willing to negotiate at least a little. By doing these things you will save money because of the differences in what the companies cost.
